GearTorq™
Gear Integration &
High Torque Unified
GearTorq™ is Alva's slotless frameless motor series specifically designed for geared applications and actuator systems. Enabled by Alva's FiberPrinting™ manufacturing technology, GearTorq™ motors are optimized for the highest motor constant relative to rotor inertia, the key performance metric in geared drive design.
Km/J
Optimized for highest motor constant vs. rotor inertia.
3
Motor sizes, from compact gimbals to large aerospace actuators.
Zero
Cogging torque, for smooth, precise motion in any geared system.
Large ID
Centrally mount gear-sets within the motor.
FiberPrinting™
High copper fill factor ensures maximum performance.
Halbach Rotor
Maximises the magnetic field density.

The primary design metric for geared drives. More output torque from the gear-set, less inertia the system must overcome.
Large inner diameter allows planetary, strain wave, cycloidal, or ball screw gear-sets to sit centrally within the motor - enabling compact actuator architectures.
FiberPrinting™ stator technology maximises copper fill factor, delivering high peak and continuous torque in a package sized for geared integration.

GTM-88-110
mm mmThe GTM-88-110 is the largest motor in the GearTorq™ series. Its longer axial length accommodates multi-stage gear-sets and is designed for aerospace actuators, robotic joints, and ball screw actuation drives. High-voltage configuration available on request.

GTM-64-45
mm mmThe GTM-64-45 offers a balance between compactness and torque capability. Designed for aerospace actuators and robotic joints, it is ideally suited to planetary, strain wave, and cycloidal gear systems where both form factor and dynamic torque output are critical design parameters.

GTM-39-35
mm mmThe GTM-39-35 is the most compact motor in the GearTorq™ series, designed for space-constrained actuator applications where gear integration and a small outer envelope are both required. It is suited to gimbals, medical applications, robotic end effectors, and handheld devices.

FiberPrinting™
stator
GearTorq™ motors are built on Alva's proprietary FiberPrinting™ manufacturing technology. This process enables a compact stator structure with a high copper fill factor and non-skewed windings, the key enablers of the high motor constant, low rotor inertia, and large inner diameter that makes central gear mounting practical.
High motor constant
Low rotor inertia
High peak torque
Compact form factor
Zero cogging torque
Large through-bore

Halbach rotor
Every component in a GearTorq™ motor is designed for maximum performance and reliability, including the rotor. The Halbach array rotor maximises magnetic field density in the air gap, contributing directly to the high peak torque capability of the series.
Halbach array
Alva’s state-of-the-art Halbach array rotor maximizes the magnetic field density.
Composite sleeve
A composite sleeve assures failure free operation in any condition.

Large
through hole
FiberPrinting™ technology results in a compact stator structure with a larger inner diameter compared to conventional motor designs. This allows a gear or gear-set to be placed centrally inside the frameless motor, a key enabler of the compact, high-torque actuator architectures the GearTorq™ series is designed for.
The GearTorq™ motors are brushless motors, they are therefore inherently not exposed to any mechanical wear assuming a well designed mechanical assembly. The Litz Wire of the stator windings are isolated with of a P180 enamel according to IEC 60172, with a rated lifetime of 20,000 hrs at a continuous temperature of 180 °C.
As long as the motors doesn’t exceed their maximum rated temperature of 140°C, the motors will have next to unlimited life-time.
With a large inner-diameter and low-speed dependant losses, the GearTorq™ motors are highly suitable to be combined with gearboxes for torque demanding applications. They can be combined with all the typical type of gearboxes for precision applications such as planetary-, worm-, strain wave-, bevel- and cycloidal-gearbox.
The continuous torque and speed values in the product guide are based on the assumption that motors are mounted in a small housing and with some airflow passing over the housing. To understand how the motor will perform in your application please insert your requirements and select the correct cooling conditions in our Product Selector. Or contact us at sales@alvaindustries.com& we can support you with a detailed thermal & performance study.
All the GearTorq™ motors are rated with a maximum voltage level of 72V. Higher voltage ratings will be available in the future. Please contact sales@alvaindustries.com if your application require a higher voltage rating.
Alva’s FiberPrinting™ manufacturing technology for slottless stators & proprietary manufacturing method of Halbach array rotors, allow for production cost that can be quite competitive to even manufacturing methods of slotted motors, enabling also competitive pricing. On the other hand, slotless motors from other manufacturers tend to be more expensive than slotted motors due to the larger magnets & legacy manufacturing methods.
No. Alva’s manufacturing methods, lead by the FiberPrinting™ technology, are comparable in cost & price with motors with similar characteristics (thin, light, cogging free slotless frameless motors).
The easiest way to select the correct motor for your application is to use our Product Selector. Insert you requirements in the Product Selector and it will find precisely the right motor for you. It will also allow you to fully configure the motor and order it. We are happy to help if you desire personal assistance to select the right motor, just contact us on sales@alvaindustries.com.
Due the inherent simplicity & flexibility our manufacturing technology FiberPrinting™ we can offer fully custom solutions for your application. Please contact us at sales@alvaindustries.com to learn more.
